A Day in the City - San Francisco Children's Creativity Museum

San Francisco Creativity Museum

221 Fourth Street, San Francisco, CA 94103

Today we went to the San Francisco Creativity Museum with our good friends -- Elisa and her daughter, Danielle, whom we've known since the girls were 2.

We took BART into the city from the Bay Point location to the Powell Street location in SF. It was just a few blocks walk up to Yerba Buena, where the Creativity Museum is located.

I had purchased tickets to the museum in advance from a Living Social Deal, which was for 2 adults and 2 children. We've never been to this museum before, so we didn't know what to expect. I did look at their website prior to going and the Animation Studio looked fun for the girls.

We mainly concentrated on the Animation Studio, since our time was limited. They open at 10:00 am and close at 4:00 pm. We arrived after 1:00 pm. I'd suggest making this an all day thing.

Walking into the Animation Studio was a little overwhelming at first, but there's helpful staff ready to guide you. Basically, what your child does is create characters out of blocks of clay and wire for their stop animation movie. I would suggest having your child spend a little time observing others to get their creative juices flowing.

Kay decided to make a stop motion movie involving her and her cats. She was in charge of making a clay model of herself and I made the clay model cats.

Once you are finished, you go pick a backdrop for your movie and then wait for a staff member to set up the camera. If it's your first time, they will show you how to operate it. It's a pretty simple process and once done, you  have a staff member to finalize your movie.

The will email your link to your movie, which took a few days.
